Funeral services for Evelyn J. Lamason Blaine, 74, of Shermans Creek Road, Duncannon, will be held Wednesday at noon in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon.

She died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at home.

Born April 9, 1925 in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob L. and Myrtle V. Herman Lamason.

A former employee of the former Eileen Hope of Duncannon and Children's Dress of Harrisburg, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon.

Survivors include her husband, George E. Blaine; a son, Harry F. Smith Jr., of Harrisburg; and a sister, Phyllis I. Yarnell of Harrisburg.

The Rev. John Schaertel will officiate at funeral services. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery in Silver Spring Township.

Marian E. Oakes, 77, of 1 Mourning Dove Way, Duncannon, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999 at her Penn Township home.

Born Jan. 27, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Edward Gutshall and Dessie Dick Miles and the widow of Charles H. Oakes.

Mrs. Oakes had been active in the foster care program for 30 years.

Survivors include two sons, Charles H. II and Darwin E., both of Duncannon; a daughter, Sheron Shaffer of Halifax; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Boyer Funeral Home, 230 N. High St., Duncannon with the Rev. George Yerger officiating.

Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waggoner's Gap Church of God Cemetery, North Middleton Township.

Graveside services for Irene A. Savage Paumer, 72, of 160 Inglenook Road, Halifax, will be held at the convenience of the family in Long's Cemetery, Halifax.

She died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.

Born June 1, 1927 in Mt. Carmel, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Glowatski Savage.

Mrs. Paumer was retired from Polyclinic Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Edward D. Paumer; a son, Edward D. of Halifax; four daughters, Lidia J. Strohecker and Gloria J. Strohecker, both of Halifax, Peggy I. Paumer of Harrisburg and Linda M. DeHoniesto of Virginia; a sister, Rita Larson of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Pastor George Barto will officiate at the services. No viewing or visitation is planned.

Raymond C. Mellinger Sr., 74, of 153 Elm St., Carlisle, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born July 29, 1925, in North Carolina, a son of the late John and Beluha Worthington Mellinger, he was retired from Local 1180 in Harrisburg after 32 years working in masonry construction. He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Mellinger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pearl E. Eberly Mellinger, Carlisle; a son, Raymond Jr. of Boiling Springs; three sisters, Kathryn Diehl of Enola, Jean McVitty of Shippensburg and Helen Trayer of Carlisle; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Harry, and a sister, Dorothy Stiegleman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. The Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter will preside.

Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township. Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph A. Cranga, 61, of 2 Wexford Court, South Middleton Township, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 in Carlisle Hospital.

Born Aug. 4, 1938 in Jersey City, N.J., a son of the late James J. and Mary T. Vicario Cranga, he was a 1956 graduate of Carlisle High School and he attended Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmittsburg, Md. and Rider College in Trenton, N.J.

Retired in 1993 after 33 years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Harrisburg, he was the assistant district supervisor of municipal services. Active in the Cumberland County Democratic Party, he was a former constable in Mt. Holly Springs and he was formerly on the Planning and Zoning Commission in Mt. Holly Springs. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Carlisle, a former member and officer of the South Middleton Township Jaycees, a former officer with the state Jaycees, and a member of Carlisle Elks Club.

Mr. Cranga is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathryn E. Bitner Cranga of Carlisle; a son, Michael J. of Mt. Holly Springs; a daughter, Andrea K. Davidheiser of Mt. Holly Springs; a brother, James Vi. of Jersey City, N.J.; a granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Marsh Drive, South Middleton Township, with the Rev. Andrew J. Fontanella officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's New Cemetery, North Middleton Township.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 140 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013.

Funeral services for Dorothy E. Fortney, 81, of Mechanicsburg, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Myers Funeral Home, 37 E, Main St., Mechanicsburg.

She died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 in Centre Community Hospital, State College.

The widow of Lester N. Fortney, she attended Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill.

Mrs. Fortney is survived by a son, Lester N. of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Joyce Smyser of Mechanicsburg and Teresa Jessop of Bellefonte; three brothers, George Williams of New Cumberland, Floyd Williams of Lewisberry and Charles Williams of New Cumberland; six sisters, Evelyn Updegraff of Arizona, Edna Thomas of Manchester, Caroline Williams of Hendron, Ruth Kauffman of Lemoyne and Aquilla Williams of Idaho; four grandchildren; and numerous foster children that she considered sons and daughters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial services for Richard L. "Butch" Head, 52, of 35 Town Mills, Shippensburg, will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg.

He died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at home.

Born June 1, 1947 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Beatrice L. Rhinehart Newell of Shippensburg and Elmer W. Head of St. Louis, Mo. He is also the stepson of the late Charles E. Newell.

A member of the grounds crew at Shippensburg University, he was a 1965 graduate of Shippensburg High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Hub City Club, Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club, Landis-McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post No. 223; Durff-Kuhn VFW Post No. 6168; and AFSCME Union Local No. 2354.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Richard and Matthew, both of Michigan; two brothers, Charles E. Newell and Dave R. Newell, both of Shippensburg; four sisters, Joan C. Shank of Austin; Barbara J. Smith of Shippensburg, Judith M. Snyder of Lock Haven; and Charlotte L. Hoover of Greenville, Tenn.; a companion, Jo Ellen Stouffer, with whom he resided; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Ernest N. Rumbaugh Jr. will officiate at services. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Private graveside services will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion posts.

Graveside services for Jan A. Kutz, 52, 778 W. South St., Carlisle, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Westminster Cemetery, North Middleton Township.

She died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999 in the Thornwald Home, Carlisle.

Born on Jan. 7, 1947 in Carlisle, she was the daughter of Mimi Miller Kutz of Carlisle and the late George H. Kutz. She was a graduate of Carlisle High School.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her companion, John D. Weary of Mechanicsburg; a son, Todd A. Melisauskas of Shippensburg; a daughter, Tiffany Melisauskas of Enola; and a brother, George "Ash" Kutz, Carlisle.

There will be no viewing or visitation. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.

Private graveside services for Kenneth John Morgan, 88, a resident of Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, and formerly of 47 N. Main St., Robertsdale, will be conducted at the convenience of the family in Broad Top Cemetery, Broad Top City, with the Rev. Donald Simmons officiating.

He died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 in the center.

Born Aug. 27, 1911 in Robertsdale,he was a son of the late John H. and Mary I. Edwards Morgan and the widower of Fayetta E. Moffatt Morgan, who died Nov. 16, 1980.

He was a retired coal miner who last worked for the Delta Mining Co., Somerset, and was a member of Robertsdale Church of God.

Mr. Morgan is survived by a son, Kenneth E. of Shippensburg; a brother, Lee of Lancaster; a sister, Kathleen Brehm of Harrisburg; a granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Charles D. Ritter, 73, of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.

Born Oct. 11, 1926 in Mechanicsburg, the son of the late Charles W. and Minnie M. Miller Ritter, he was retired from the former Kinney Shoe Corp., Shiremanstown.

He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg, and a life member of Citizens Fire Co., Mechanicsburg.

Mr. Ritter is survived by his wife, Vivian J.; two sons, Dennis E. and Rodney C.; a daughter, Carolyn J. Irvin; two sisters, Pearl Humes and Minnie Bender, all of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 117 E. Keller St.,Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Gale M. Gregor officiating.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday in Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park.

Funeral services for Carl Sims Jr., 58, of 2354 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.

He died Dec. 24, 1999, at his home.

Born Feb. 10, 1941 in Carlisle, he was the son of Jean L. Sims of Carlisle the late Carl Sims Sr. and and the widower of Monica Campbell Sims, who died Oct. 4, 1985. He was formerly employed by Harrisburg Health Care and served on the board of Opportunity Homes in Carlisle.

A 1960 graduate of Carlisle High School, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with the rank of sergeant, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826 in Carlisle where he was a former treasurer, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans Association.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Sims is survived by four sons, Jason of California, Stewart and Anthony of Pittsburgh and Carl III of Carlisle; two daughters, Lisa Sweger of State College, and Denise Roberson of Carlisle; a stepson, Jamon; two brothers, Robert L. of Harrisburg and James E. of Atlanta; a sister, Betty J. Wright of Carlisle; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services for Kathryn Gamble Sowers, 66, of New Port Richie, Fla., were held Dec. 17 in Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home in New Port Richey.

She died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999 at Community Hospital in New Port Richey.

Born Oct. 10, 1933 in Greenville, a daughter of the late Dr. John Taylor Gamble and Lydia Roth Rissell, she was a graduate of Penn High School in Greenville and attended Westminster College in New Wilmington. She was employed by Laboratory Corp. of America, Tampa, Fla.

Mrs. Sowers is survived by two daughters, Camille Austin of Port Richey, Fla. and Nancy Santangelo of New Port Richey; a sister, Winifred "Lou" Gamble Powless of Carlisle; two granddaughters; two nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral services for Kathlene H. Varner, 33, of Holly Pike, Carlisle, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg.

She died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999 at home.

Born July 4, 1966 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of Nancy Graham Adams Sleighter, Newville and the late John W. Adams and the stepdaughter of the late Roger D. Sleighter.

She was employed by Valley Farms Landscaping, Carlisle.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Douglas M. Jr. and Samuel J. both of Shippensburg; her companion with whom she resided, Donald Stoerzinger; four sisters, Polly Pringle of Shippensburg, Pamela Rourke of Houstontown, Betty Adams of Newville and Robin Flory of Upper Strasburg; two nieces; and four nephews.

The Rev. David S. Halteman will officiate at services. Burial will be in Mountain Green Cemetery, Greene Township.

Funeral services for Clara E. Jumper Wagner, 87, a resident of Church of God Home, Carlisle and formerly of Ritner Highway, Carlisle, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.

She died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in the home.

Born Sept. 30, 1912, in South Middleton Township, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma Stambaugh Jumper and the widow of Kenneth E. Wagner Sr.

She was a former employee of Kinney Shoe Co., Carlisle and Musselman Foods, Gardners and was a member of Mt. Rock United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by five sons, Paul A. of Carlisle, Jay K. of Shippensburg, Roger E. of New Kingstown, Leroy H. of York and Kenneth E. Jr. of Kingsland, Ga.; a daughter, Darlene E. Brown of Carlisle; a brother, George Jumper of Carlisle; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest E. in 1998 and Oren L. in 1988, and a sister, Grace A. Showaker.

The Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter will officiate at services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.

Funeral services for Alice M. Moose Weller, 85, of Perlo Ridge Apartments, RD 2, Loysville, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville.

She died Dec. 25, 1999, in Carlisle Hospital.

Born March 10, 1914 in Gaylesburg, Ill. she was the daughter of the late Miles F. and Mary M. Sweger Moose and the widow of Harry L. Weller who died May 21, 1971. A homemaker, she was formerly employed at the former Blain Union High School as a cafeteria worker and was a seamstress for Conaley Upholstery, Camp Hill.

She was a member of First Church of God, Landisburg, and the Golden Age Group, Loysville.

Mrs. Weller is survived by two sons, Miles H. of Shermans Dale, and Harry E. "Gene" of Loysville; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. H. James Williams will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, RD 1, Loysville.

Funeral services for Pearl B. Wolgemuth, 91, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church.

She died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.

Born June 11, 1908 in Ranvona, Kan. to the late Samuel and Lillie Haldeman Brehm, she was a retired missionary for the Brethren in Christ Church, working for 15 years in Cuba, Jamaica and Nicaragua. She was known for her work with children and was active for more than 20 years with child evangelism.

She was a member of Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church and Messiah Village Auxiliary. She also was a charter member of the Elizabethtown Shell Club and was well known for her work with shells and crafts.

Mrs. Wolgemuth is survived by her husband, Howard M. Wolgemuth; a son, O. Dale of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Judith C. Hamilton of Grantham; two sisters, Faith Carlson and Doris Harley, both of Messiah Village; and four grandchildren.

The Rev. Ronald Burgard will officiate at services. Cocklin Funeral Home, Dillsburg, is handling the arrangements.

Burial will be in Grantham Memorial Park, Grantham. Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
